Ex Kaizer Chiefs Coach Stuart Baxter Finally Speaks About Second Stint Weeks After Being Sacked by the Club

Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has broken his silence three weeks after being shown the door by the club.

The 68-year-old was in his second stint with the Amakhosi when the axe fell on him. A poor run of form all season plus added pressure from supporters and from sections of the media made his stay untenable as far as management was concerned.

Baxter spoke to SABC Sport in an exclusive interview where he touched on various aspects of his foreshortened stay at Naturena, where he also stated that he was fired while he was on the verge of something grander.

He said:

“First of all, my history with Chiefs is something that I think is a bit special. It’s a got special part in my heart, and my experiences with Chiefs until coming back now was only positive. That’s why I came back. That’s why I considered coming back because you try not to go back to places you have worked before."

His tenure from 2012 was highly successful, during which the club won two league titles as well as the MTN 8 and Nedbank Cup. The latter was won in 2015, the last time South Africa's "cup kings" won silverware, something Baxter's appointment was expected to remedy.

He added:

“When I came back, I knew what had been going on before. I knew what happened before I came the first time, I knew what happened since I left and I just I got this passion to do what I could to put things right.”

Stuart Baxter’s reign at the Amakhosi is over.

After a string of poor results and another disappointing season for the Sowetan team, Sports Brief reported that Kaizer Chiefs have decided to part ways with the Scotsman. It was confirmed that Arthur Zwane and Dillion Sheppard would be in charge of the club until the end of the season.

Baxter came under fire from fans after the defeat to SuperSport United, with many in the stadium asking him to leave.
