  • Seeing out one's contract as the head coach of Kaizer Chiefs is a very tough business, particularly in the Premier Soccer League
  • Only two have managed to run the distance of coaching South Africa's most popular and successful club
  • This comes as Stuart Baxter was let go by the Amakhosi for the second time yesterday after another disappointing season at Naturena

Being Kaizer Chiefs head coach is not a job for the faint-hearted.

One can ask Stuart Baxter, who was shown the door by the Naturena-based team yesterday after a poor run of form.

A report by Soccer Laduma showed that the gig is quite possible the hardest in the country, if not the continent and in the world. Since the advent of the Premier Soccer League, only two coaches have seen out their contracts, however long, in the dugout hot seat.

This distinction belongs to Serbian and Romanian legends Paul Dolezar and Ted Dumitru. Dolezar's tenure started in July 1997 until June 1999, while the late Dumitru's highly successful stint ran from June 2003 until May 2005.

Dolezar and Dumitru are two of 18 coaches who have served at the club in 26 years, whether it was in a permanent or temporary role. Arthur Zwane will serve as an interim once again while the club searches for its next manager after Baxter's departure.

The Naturena-based team has come to be styled the 'Cup Kings Of South Africa' since their establishment by Kaizer Motaung Sr. in 1970. As such, any coach has to deal with a very demanding fanbase and management

Interesting possible candidates have emerged for the Kaizer Chiefs head coach position

Silly season has begun in earnest towards the end of the Premier Soccer League season.

As reported on Sports Brief, with sackings and appointments the order of the day, unlikely candidates are also being linked to posts they normally wouldn't be.

Benni McCarthy is one of two candidates been suggested for the vacant Kaizer Chiefs head coach position after Stuart Baxter was sacked yesterday. The other is interim coach Arthur Zwane, who will lead the Amakhosi in their remaining seven matches of the DStv Premiership.
