  • Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Themba Seli has told under-fire coach Stuart Baxter to forget about past glories
  • Baxter had an excellent first tenure at the Amakhosi a few seasons ago, but his second go has been a failure
  • This has seen a large section of the fanbase at the stadium and at home calling for his sacking by management

If it wasn't raining or pouring for Stuart Baxter, it certainly is starting to flood in a tide that is strongly against him.

From the well-known to the obscure, voices are louder than ever in criticism of his current tenure as the coach of Kaizer Chiefs. This time, former Amakhosi defender Themba Seli has added his voice to the cacophony of noise.

Seli: 'Baxter must stop living in the past' and must be sacked

Seli bluntly said that Baxter needed to adapt to the times after his first stint at the Naturena-based club between 2012 and 2013. In that time, he brought two league titles and multiple other trophies to the 'Cup Kings Of South Africa'.

In dissecting a more lacklustre second tenure, a blunt Seli said to KickOff:

"This coach is too defensive and very scared to lose. To say he is the last coach to bring silverware to Naturena or the best coach in the last 20 years doesn't mean anything. Big clubs don't live on past glories or past achievements, every season they need to produce results.
"He must just leave as he has already failed. The league is gone, the MTN8 trophy is gone, the Nedbank Cup is gone so why is he still there? We should be building for next season with a new coach already.
"I don't see him qualifying for the CAF Champions League, where are all these players that were bought in for him from Swallows and the other teams?"

The Amakhosi sit in fourth place on the DStv Premiership log, guaranteed a seventh consecutive season without silverware and any hopes of qualifying for the CAF Champions League next season dissipating quickly.

“If they want me to go I’ll go”: Stuart Baxter responds to fans' outrage after SuperSport United defeat

The pressure is piling on Stuart Baxter following Kaizer Chiefs’ latest defeat but the coach is willing to walk away if that’s what the fans want.

As reported by Sports Brief, Kaizer Chiefs were beaten 1-0 by SuperSport United at home despite dominating possession and having the better scoring chances.

Thamsanqa Gabuza scored in the 68th minute to give his side the victory.
