  • The Premier Soccer League's Disciplinary Committee have charged Kaizer Chiefs with two new offences
  • Kaizer Chiefs have been accused of fielding ineligible players during a game last year by the Premier Soccer League
  • Kaizer Chiefs could face a points deduction if they are found guilty of the new charges brought against them

Kaizer Chiefs' legal troubles are far from over and the Soweto based club has been slapped with two new charges.

The Amakhosi were charged by the Premier Soccer League’s Disciplinary Committee (DC) for naming two ineligible players in their squad for a fixture against Sekhukhune United last year.

If found guilty by the DC, Chiefs could face a points deduction, Goal.com reported. PSL Prosecutor Zola Majavu confirmed that the side would face charges today.

“These players were not properly registered for purposes of the DSTV Premiership but were registered for purposes of the reserve league. That is the basis of the allegations which they are facing. The matter has been enrolled for hearing on the 14th of April, 2022 at 14h00,” he said.

Ironically, the new charges stem from the club’s ongoing dispute with the PSL over the fixtures they could not play last year.

The Amakhosi asked that five of their fixtures be postponed after the club experienced a Covid-19 outbreak at their Naturena facilities last year. The PSL refused the request and Chiefs did not honour games against Cape Town City and Golden Arrows.

They then played the other three fixtures against Sekhukhune United, Royal AM and Maritzburg United, but were forced to use a mix of squad players and youngsters from the reserves side. As a result, they were now charged for fielding players who were not properly registered.

Chiefs were handed a boost when they won their arbitration ruling, however, the PSL has appealed the matter and it will now be heard at the Johannesburg High Court.

As reported by Soccer Laduma, the case will be heard on 10 May. The season is schedule to end on 21 May though, and could be extended if the PSL lose the appeal and are forced to reschedule the Amakhosi’s two outstanding games.

Kaizer Chiefs will give Mamelodi Sundowns a guard of honour, Stuart Baxter says they will show them respect

Kaizer Chiefs are gracious in defeat and will show Mamelodi Sundowns the respect they deserve. Coach Stuart Baxter confirmed that his side would provide Sundowns with a guard of honour when the two sides meet if Masandawana are already crowned league champions by then.

Chiefs will host the Brazilians at the FNB Stadium on May 8. Mamelodi Sundowns are two wins away from claiming their fifth consecutive DStv Premiership title, and still have six games in hand.

Kaizer Chiefs have eight games in hand but are still awaiting the Premier Soccer League’s decision on whether it would appeal the arbitration ruling, Sports Brief earlier reported.
