Marks "Go Man Go" Maponyane turns 60 today and the legendary Bafana Bafana player remains as popular as always, despite not having played professional football in years.
The former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates star has kept busy since retiring and still keeps an eye on the beautiful game, sharing his insights or merely offering advice.
Despite last playing for Kaizer Chiefs over 20 years ago, Maponyane is still Kaizer Chiefs leading goal scorer of all time in the Premier Soccer League (PSL), The South African reported.
His tally of 85 goals for the Amakhosi is yet to be beaten or even challenged. Last year, Bernard Parker only reached the 60 goal mark.
Maponyane also won the coveted title of Footballer of the Year a record three times, twice with Chiefs and once at Pirates, Drum confirmed. During his time at Pirates, he was part of the team that won the league title in 1994 and the African Champions League in 1995.
Since retiring from the sport, Maponyane still plays a big role in footballing circles. He is a motivational speaker and works as a sports analyst for the South African Broadcasting Cooperation (SABC).
Maponyane also worked as a sales executive for Adidas. He also owns his own company called Maponyane & Associates cc which deals in cooperate gifts and clothing.
