  • Paul Pogba is going to have to wait until next season to get a taste of Champions League football
  • The Frenchman’s team Juventus crashed out of the competition after a 4-3 defeat to Benfica on Tuesday
  • He is yet to make a competitive appearance for Juventus since securing a return to Turin in the summer

Paul Pogba could have a reunion with Manchester United sooner than anticipated, after Juventus bowed out of the Champions League.

After running down his contract, the 2018 World Cup winner left Old Trafford as he rejoined his former club Juventus in the summer.

However, a worrying knee injury kept Pogba out of action for a large chunk of the season so far, but he is well on course to make a recovery in time for the World Cup.

As reported on Talksport, Juventus were beaten 4-3 by Benfica on Tuesday in a game that was played without the infamous goal-line technology, meaning the Portuguese side secured their ticket to the last 16.

For Massimiliano Allegri’s side, defeat put them on a collision course with Manchester United, who are doing well in the group stages of the Europa League.

United are second in Group E, three points behind Real Sociedad, and there is a high chance Erik ten Hag’s side will finish as runners-up in the group.

Champions League sides that finish third in their respective groups are typically relegated to the Europa League, in the last 16.

The Europa League is also not guaranteed for Juventus however, as the Italian giants will have to get a positive result against Paris Saint-Germain and hope Maccabi Haifa lose to Benfica in the final group game.

Pogba almost quit football amid witchdoctor saga

Sports Brief also earlier reported on Pogba's predicament, when his name was at the eye of a storm involving witch doctor claims.

The superstar almost quit football at the height of the alleged extortion saga between him and his elder brother, Mathias Pogba.

This has been revealed by his close friend Boubacar Kamara, who has claimed that Pogba was in tears as he narrated the story.
