FootballSerie A to introduce semi-automated offside technology next month to avoid errors witnessed in the league
- Serie A is set to introduce a semi-automated offside technology before the World Cup in order to avoid errors like the one seen in the Juventus vs Salernitana game
- The technology was introduced in the Champions League this season and will help officials make offside calls in real time
- Juventus vs Salernitana's 2-2 draw ended in mayhem after Arkadiusz Milik's goal was wrongly misjudged to be offside.
Serie A is expected to introduce a semi-automated offside technology to help speed up offsides decision that usually takes a while, frustrating fans and players during the game.
The decision to introduce the offside technology has been in the works for the last two years with FIFA running trials and tests on it before rolling it out. The technology is also expected to be used in the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup.

How does it work?
The technology is set to be rolled out in Serie A before the World Cup according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
For the technology to work, there will be between 10 and 12 specialist cameras installed at the roofs at every venue. They will follow the movement of all 22 players and collect 29 data points per player 50 times every second.
This will allow the lead VAR official to immediately see who is offside. Rolling out this technology has also raised questions about the game itself and how it will be affected by technology taking over. The use of VAR has already drawn criticisms for the long time officials take to make important decisions

FootballControversial VAR decisions during Juventus vs Salernitana
Sports Brief earlier reported on the crazy Juventus game which ended dramatically. The league witnessed a controversial ending to the match which ended with a mass brawl after Milik's goal was wrongly ruled out for offside.
The goal was ruled out because they thought defender Leonardo Bonucci was involved in active play while an offside position, but VAR hadn’t spotted Antonio Candreva on the bottom left, keeping the Italy defender onside. Those decisions caused mayhem which saw three players and Massimiliano Allegri sent off.
