Chelsea forward João Pedro has reflected on a productive first campaign at Stamford Bridge, describing his debut season with the club as among the finest of his career, while issuing a measured assessment of the upcoming Premier League clash against Manchester City.

The 24-year-old joined Chelsea from Brighton and has since established himself as a central figure in the club’s attack. Across the Premier League, Pedro has registered 14 goals and ranks inside the top 10 for assists, with his tally across all competitions standing at 19 goals — one short of the 20-goal milestone.

“Of course, I’m very happy. I think it’s one of the best seasons of my life. The expectations were high, so I tried to keep my mentality always forward to help my teammates,” Pedro said.

The Brazilian also pointed to the role of Chelsea captain Reece James in maintaining his confidence during difficult stretches. “If I don’t score in one game, Reece and my teammates tell me I’ll score in the next one,” he added, highlighting the dressing room support that has helped sustain his form throughout the campaign.

Looking ahead to Sunday’s fixture at Stamford Bridge, Pedro was measured in his appraisal of the opposition while making clear Chelsea’s sense of identity and ambition. “City has a great squad, but we are Chelsea. Details will decide the game; whoever makes fewer mistakes will win,” he said.

Manchester City arrive at Stamford Bridge as a side that has dominated English football in recent years, having won four consecutive Premier League titles between 2021 and 2024. However, the 2025/26 season has proven more competitive across the division, with several clubs mounting sustained challenges at the top of the table.

For Chelsea, the match represents a significant opportunity to assert their credentials in a congested title race. The club’s decision to bring Pedro in from Brighton has so far proven effective, with the forward’s goal contributions reinforcing Chelsea’s attacking depth under their current setup.

The match between Chelsea and Manchester City is scheduled to take place on Sunday at Stamford Bridge.
