  • Italian powerhouse Inter Milan famously thumped Bayern Munich 2-0 in the final of the 2009-10 Champions League final
  • The two European giants will meet once again on Wednesday evening in a gigantic encounter at the Guiseppe Meazza
  • While Bayern Munich have dominated their domestic for the last decade, Inter Milan have won the Serie A once in ten years

Inter Milan will kick off an intense Champions League clash against Bayern Munich at San Siro on Wednesday.

The Nerazzurri are having a topsy-turvy season so far, suffering a galling defeat against their City rivals in the Milan Derby while the Bavarians shared the spoils for a second successive Bundesliga game.

Inter were kicked out of last season's Champions League by Liverpool but the 2010 European winners aim to go deeper into the competition this time around.

After winning the Serie A in 2019/20, Simeone Inzaghi's side have been dethroned by AC Milan as champions of Italy and they also lost the Coppa Italia final to Juventus last campaign.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich shared honours with Borussia Monchengladbach after goalkeeper Yann Sommer put on an eye-popping performance at the Allianz Arena two weeks ago.

A week later, Julian Nagelsmann's side were thwarted again by a resolute Union Berlin at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei in a 1-1 drawn game.

"I'm looking forward to the game and to playing at this stadium. We will try to start our group well," Nagelsmann said at the presser.

Inter Milan

Belgium international Romelu Lukaku is on the sideline since he sustained a thigh injury against Lecce. Edin Dzeko is expected to compete with Joaquin Correa in the absence of Lukaku to form a combo with Lautaro Martinez up front.

Ex-Dortmund attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan is expected to be fit and play a crucial role against his old rivals.

Bayern Munich

German box-to-box midfielder Leon Goretzka is back to the Bayern roster after suffering a knee injury. He will likely start in midfield with Joshua Kimmich and midfield gem Jamal Musiala.

Summer signing Sadio Mane is expected to lead the attack after scoring five goals since joining the Bundesliga outfit from Liverpool in June.

Mane will be supported by Thomas Muller while Leroy Sane will support them from the wing flanks.
