The Belgian left Milan last summer for Chelsea, looking to carry his prolific form to London. He penned a five-year contract at Chelsea in a club-record fee.

Things did not go as Lukaku had envisaged and he has since returned to Italy, where he got off to a perfect start with a goal against Lecce in the Serie A.

Lukaku will be hoping to lead Inter Milan to reclaim the Serie A title that their cross-city rivals AC Milan won last season.

After the game against Lecce, Lukaku posted on his Instagram story,

When people can't control you, they try to control how people view you.

The interpretation of this message is subject to anyone's thinking. But the 29-year-old has not shied away from expressing his dissatisfaction with how his time at Chelsea ended.

Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner score in their first games away from Chelsea

Sports Brief had earlier reported that maybe Chelsea was the problem after all. This appeared to be the understanding among many football fans after former Chelsea strikers scored in their first competitive games away from the club.

Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner left Chelsea this summer after disappointing spells in London to rejoin their former clubs, Inter Milan and RB Leipzig.

While Lukaku is still virtually a Chelsea player, given that he left on loan, Werner sealed a permanent transfer back to Germany. The two strikers, who built a cult following for themselves in their clubs before joining Chelsea, did not take too long to pick up from where they had left.
