  • Alexis Sanchez almost suffered a freak injury on his first day as a Marseille player
  • The Chilean joined the French giants after Inter Milan terminated his contract by mutual consent
  • Sanchez slipped and nearly fell as he was greeted by hundreds of Marseille fans in the city

Alexis Sanchez nearly suffered an injury without kicking a ball during his first appearance in Marseille, where he is set to be presented as the French club’s new player.

Sanchez has his contract at Inter Milan terminated early by mutual consent, with the Nerazzuri reportedly compensating him with a £4.3m payment to cancel the contract.

On Tuesday, August 9, Marseille announced they had reached an agreement in principle to get Sanchez to the Orange Vélodrome in what will be an interesting signing for the French giants.

Everything seems to be going as planned for Sanchez, but it almost got derailed in bizarre fashion if a video shared by @GFFN online is anything to go by.

Clad in a Marseille shirt, Sanchez stormed the streets of the city to be received by fans, who turned up by their hundreds to greet the 33-year old former Arsenal and Manchester United star.

But things almost went awry when Sanchez seemed to twist his ankle and slip, with security staff instantly springing to action.

Luckily for Sanchez, he was completely fine and continued greeting fans in attendance.

Sanchez’s career journey

The Chilean started his career in his home country, representing Cobreloa before eventually moving to Europe in 2006 to join Udinese.

He spent five years with the Italian club before sealing a famous move to Barceloana in 2011.

At Barca, he lasted three years, winning the La Liga once before sealing a move to Arsenal, where he enjoyed his most prolific stint as a player, scoring 80 goals in 166 appearances.

Despite a prolific time as a Gunner, Sanchez infamously joined Manchester United in a swap deal involving Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

He failed to thrive at United and eventually moved to Inter Milan, initially on a loan deal in 2019.
