Ghana Legend Asamoah Gyan Visits U23 National Team Ahead of Algeria Trip

Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan paid a visit to the Ghana U23 team ahead of their CAF U23 Cup of Nations qualifiers against Algeria.

The Black Meteors are preparing for the double-header against Algeria in the final round of qualifiers for the tournament to be hosted in Morocco.

Ghana will travel to Algiers for the first leg on March 24, before hosting the North Africans in Kumasi four days later.

Gyan, who had his breakthrough while playing for the Black Meteors at Athens 2004, shared the moment with the team as he inspired them to go all out for a win.

The CAF U23 Africa Cup of Nations will also serve as the qualification tournament for the summer Olympics in Paris next year.

Black Meteors coach Ibrahim Tanko has invited a team consisting of eight Europe-based players.

The team has been preparing in Accra and will leave for Algeria on Wednesday for the game on Friday.

Ghana missed out on the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2020 after finishing fifth at the last tournament in Egypt.

Asamoah Gyan attends FIFA Congress

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Asamoah Gyan and Kwadwo Asamoah honoured an invitation from CAF President, Patrice Motsepe after attending the Outstanding Achievement Awards in Rwanda.

The former Ghana captain and the ex-Juventus star were among several African football legends at the ceremony in honour of the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame and King Mohammed VI of Morocco.

The two heads of states were awarded by Motsepe following their massive contributions to football on the continent.

Late Atsu implores Ghanaians to celebrate Gyan

The late Christian Atsu believed legendary Ghanaian forward, Asamoah Gyan is not celebrated enough by his own people.

In an interview with ace journalist, Kwabena Yeboah, the late winger likened the former Ghana captain to Brazilian forward, Ronaldo Nazario.

Atsu tragically passed away following the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria on February 6.
