Ghana winger Bernard Tekpetey has been named the best foreign player in the Bulgarian topflight league for the 2021/22 season.

The 24-year-old Ludogorets star won the award for the first time after helping the Green Eagles win the league title last season.

Tekpetey, who is having an outstanding 2022/23 campaign, shared his excitement after scooping the top award.

"An award recognizing me for my talent is an honor. I’m so much excited for emerging as the best foreign player 21/22 in de efbet league. To be honoured by de federation is incredibly, gratifying and I am so thankful to my colleagues across the league and everyone for this recognition," he wrote on Twitter.

The former Schalke 04 striker netted ten goals as Ludogorets won the title. He has already netted eight goals in 17 matches in the ongoing campaign.

Despite his dazzling displays, Tekpetey failed to make the Black Stars squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The pacy forward is on the radar of several clubs including Dutch giants Feyenoord, who were close to signing him in the winter transfer window.

Red Star Belgrade also showed interest in the Ghana international.

Tekpetey buys mother car

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghana international Bernard Tekpetey celebrated his mother's 70th birthday in style after surprising her with a new Toyota Rav 4 car.

The Bulgaria-based player held a mini party for his mother Madam Cecilia Olaga, at his Kasoa residence, before later gifting her the car in the midst of friends and family.

Tekpetey, who narrowly missed out on the World Cup squad, expressed gratitude to his mother for supporting his dreams of becoming a footballer.

Tekpetey wins player of the month

Bernard Tekpetey has been named the Bulgarian First League player of the month for April after his good run of games.

The Ludogorets forward netted five goals and provided four assists as the Bulgarian giants successfully defended their title.

The 24-year-old Ghanaian beat competition from CSKA's Ivaylo Chochev and teammate Igor Plastun to win the award.
