  • Black Galaxies midfielder David Abagna believes his team is ready for Sudan
  • Ghana needs to secure the win after losing their CHAN opener to Madagascar
  • The two-time finalists can still advance with victory over the North Africans

Black Galaxies vice-captain, David Abagna remains cautiously optimistic of Ghana's chances ahead of their second Group C game against Sudan at the CHAN tournament in Algeria.

The two-time African Nations Championship finalists were stunned in their first game by Madagascar, losing 2-1 in Constantine.

Ghana needs a win to stand any chance of progressing to the next stage, and ahead of Thursday's game, Abagna expects a tough battle against the North Africans.

However, he feels the loss is now in the past.

“Yes, we were disappointed, but the tournament is still open for us to do well. It will not be an easy game. All the teams that are here are very competitive, so we will need to ensure that we execute our plan accordingly and give it our best shot,” Abagna told the media in a pre-match conference.

Despite losing their opener to Madagascar, Ghana was awarded three points following Morocco's decision to bow out of the tournament.

This means a point against Sudan could see the Black Galaxies through, depending on results from other groups.

The west Africans were the losing finalist in 2009 and 2014, where they were defeated by DR Congo and Libya respectively.

Ghana stunned by Madagascar

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghana's home-based national team was shocked by Madagascar in their opening Group C game at CHAN 2022.

The Black Galaxies were making a return to the tournament after missing the last three editions.

However, their comeback was met with a surprise defeat, after a 2-1 loss in Constantine on Sunday evening.

Dauda backs Ghana for CHAN

Former Black Stars goalkeeper, Fatau Dauda is backing the Black Galaxies to win the upcoming CHAN tournament in Algeria.

Ghana's home-based team edged out rivals Nigeria to qualify for the tournament, after missing out in previous years.

The two-time finalists of the tournament have been drawn in Group C alongside title holders Morocco, Madagascar and Sudan.
