"So it was at that time that we clicked and this was in 2005. After the show, I took their numbers and when they arrived in Ghana, Castro called me to inform me they are back in the country."

Gyan said Castro praised his footballing skills and invited him to play for the Monday Stars. When the former Black Stars captain returned to his country, they met up again.

"I asked him to perform some freestyle, so as he was performing, I was harmonising, and at the moment he new I had some music talent. We went to the studio and made the hit record African Girls."

Gyan last saw Castro on the fateful day in 2014, and admitted he never stopped missing his friend.

"I miss him everyday but I just don't show the emotions. I always feel his presence around me," he added.

Gyan is currently unattached but is yet to retire from the game. He last played for Ghana Premier League outfit, Legon Cities.

Gyan visits shrine for Castro

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on former Ghana captain Gyan lifting the lid on what ensued before, during, and after the disappearance of his best friend and Ghanaian musician, Theophilus Tagoe.

The 36-year-old striker shared a close bond with the man affectionately known as Castro, which led to the duo composing various hit songs together.

Their close-knit friendship was cut short by an unfortunate incident on July 6, 2014, after Castro went missing after an accident while on holiday.
