Ghana have set an unwanted record in Qatar during their final group game encounter against Uruguay on Friday afternoon.

The Black Stars were booted out of the Mundial following their 2-0 defeat to the Sky Blue.

The four-time African champions had the chance to take the lead in the game Sergio Rochet was judged to have brought down Mohammed Kudus in the box.

But Andre Ayew failed to convert from the spot as his poorly taken low shot was parried away by Rochet before a defender hooked the ball to safety.

Interestingly, this was the Black Stars' second missed penalty, with Statman Dave reporting that Otto Addo's side have now become the first team to miss a non-shootout penalty against the same opposition at the World Cup on two occasions.

Ironically, Ghana failed to convert from the spot against Uruguay during their quarter-finals clash in South Africa 12 years ago.

The Black Stars were eliminated from the 2010 tournament after Luis Suarez deliberately used his hands to stop a goal-bound header from Dominic Adiyiah from entering the net in the 120th after extra time.

The West African giants ended up losing 4-2 on penalties, with the dreams of the continent shattered.

Ghanaians slam Andre Ayew

Meanwhile, Ghanaians have criticised Andre Ayew after he made a horrendous miss from the penalty spot against Uruguay.

The Black Stars were awarded a penalty after Mohammed Kudus was brought down by goalkeeper Sergio Rochet.

After a lengthy VAR inspection, German referee Daniel Siebert pointed to the spot, and Ayew stepped up to the spot.

Top Ghanaian journalist cries on tv

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that veteran Ghanaian journalist Kwabena Yeboah broke down in uncontrollable tears as he anchored a show discussing the game between the Blacks Stars and Uruguay.

The four-time African champions renew their rivalry with the South American nation twelve years after the dramatic quarter-final clash in South Africa.

Ghana were eliminated from the tournament after Luis Suarez stopped a goal-bound effort from Dominic Adiyiah with his hands. Even though the ex-Liverpool forward was red carded, Ghana forward Asamoah Gyan missed the penalty.
