Ghana's Budget for 2022 FIFA World Cup Revealed, Black Stars to Spend At Least $8 Million

• The Black Stars of Ghana will spend in excess of $8 million at the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar
• Ghana will be making a return to the World Cup this month after missing the 2018 edition in Russia
• The Black Stars have been drawn in Group H in Qatar alongside Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay

Ghana will spend over $8 million at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, according to the country's Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif.

The four-time African champions qualified for the World Cup after beating rivals Nigeria in the play-offs in March, and will be making a return to the tournament which starts on November 20.

Ghana have been drawn in Group H alongside 2016 European champions Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.

The Minister of Youth and Sports revealed Ghana will spend $8.1 million at the group stage, on the floor of Parliament on Friday.

“Our group stage appearance will cost us an estimated $8,166,200,” he said as quoted by myjoyonline.com

Ussif explained that the team would spend more should they progress from their group.

"With our sights firmly fixed on progressing through the knockout stages, I am delighted to give you more good news, Mr. Speaker. Progressing from the group stage to the round of 16 will increase the prize money from $9 million to $13 million."

At that stage, Ussif explained, Ghana's expenditure would increase to $8,792,600. If the Black Stars progress from the round of 16 to the quarter-finals, that prize money would be boosted to $17 million.

"At this stage, our expenditure will increase from $8,792,600 to $9,512,200 dollars. If we progress from the quarter-final into the last four, Ghana stands to receive between $27 million to $42 million. At this stage, we estimate a combined expenditure of $14,184,100."

Former Black Star releases song

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that legendary Ghanaian forward Asamoah Gyan has dropped a new song for the Black Stars, ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The 36-year-old, who is likely to miss the World Cup due to not playing football since 2021, collaborated with Ghanaian artist Kiaani to compose a song for the team.

Gyan release snippet of the song on social media, as he urged the Black Stars team to 'turn up' in Qatar.
