  • Eddie Nketiah will miss out on the 2022 FIFA World Cup as the Ghana Football Association ends the chase for him
  • The London-born striker is reportedly reluctant to switch his nationality from England to Ghana
  • GFA has resolved to end efforts to convince the Arsenal star, a decision that comes less than a month before the World Cup

Ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, which is less than one month away, the Ghana Football Association has suspended all efforts to convince Eddie Nketiah.

The Arsenal star, born in the Lewisham area of London to Ghanian parents, is still eligible to feature for the Three Lions or the Black Stars.

Nketiah has featured for the England U21 team in recent matches, but he could still switch allegiance to play for Ghana at the senior level.

Now the Ghana FA seems to have lost interest in the player, and he will miss out on the chance to play at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar this winter.

While he is not in Gareth Southgate's England plans, he would have been in Ghana's squad had he committed to the West African country.

Nketiah signs new Arsenal contract

Meanwhile, Sports Brief reported that Eddie Nketiah had signed a new contract with Arsenal, which will keep him in North London until 2027.

Nketiah's contract with the Gunners was due to expire in the summer, and many Premier League clubs were reportedly keen on his signature.

However, Nketiah will now wear Arsenal's legendary No.14 - the shirt number also worn by all-time record scorer Thierry Henry.

Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe makes case for Ayew ahead of World Cup

Sports Brief earlier reported that the former chairman of the Ghana Football Association, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe believes captain Andre Ayew should be starting games for the Black Stars regardless of his form.

The Al Sadd forward has come under intense pressure recently, with fans of the Black Stars calling for him to be dropped from the team for the World Cup.

However, Nyaho-Tamakloe thinks otherwise, insisting Ayew should make the team and start games in Qatar.
