Ghanaian Forward Handed Five Game Ban in Germany For Brutally Assaulting an Opponent

Ghanaian forward, Aaron Opoku, has been handed a five-game ban by the German Football Association following his red card in the game against Darmstadt last Friday.

The German-born Ghanaian angrily reacted to a tackle from Darmstadt's Fabian Holland by kicking the stomach of the player.

In a statement released by the DFB, the Hamburg forward will miss the next five games in the Bundesliga II.

"The sports tribunal of the German Football Association (DFB) has banned Aaron Opoku from the second division club Hamburger SV from five championship games in the professional leagues after the DFB control committee had brought charges for assault against an opponent after he had previously committed an anti-sports act," wrote the DFB as quoted by Germany.detailzeo.com.

Aaron Opoku had come off the bench in the second half of the game between Hamburg and Darmstadt, but stayed on the pitch for only eight minutes.

His compatriot Patric Pfeiffer opened the scoring in the fourth minute for FC Damstadt before Phillip Tietz doubled the scoring three minutes later.

His teammate and Ghana forward Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer pulled one back for Hamburg in the 87th minute before he was also sent off by referee Robert Schroder.

Opoku will miss the games against Nurnberg, Karlsruher, Holstein Kiel, Fortuna Dusseldorf and Hanover 96.

Callum Hudson-Odoi set to join German giants Bayer Leverkusen

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Callum Hudson-Odoi is on the verge of joining German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen in the transfer window.

The 21-year-old English-born Ghanaian is set to sign a one-year loan deal to join Leverkusen this summer.

According to Evening Standard, negotiations are at advance stage between the player's representatives and the German club. Read more:
