Christian Atsu is pleading with handlers of the Ghana Football Association to honour Asamoah Gyan's desire to play at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The 36-year-old opened up on his dream of playing at another World Cup despite being unattached for almost two years.

Atsu and Gyan played together at the 2014 World Cup, and the ex-Newcastle United player wants the former Black Stars captain to be a part of the team in Qatar.

Christian Atsu, who recently played in Saudi Arabia with Al Raed, has not feautred for the Black Stars since the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Meanwhile, Asamoah Gyan has been undergoing personal training to stay fit ahead of the World Cup.

"I just need to get my body back in shape. So I've started training of course so I need to get back in shape and see how my body reacts to playing competitive football. Talent wise, I reckon it's there already so I just have to prepare physically and then we'll see what happens," Gyan told the BBC.

Asamoah Gyan last played for Ghana Premier League side Legon Cities.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Christian Atsu has said Ghanaians should stop comparing current Black Stars strikers to Asamoah Gyan.

Asamoah Gyan who captained the Black Stars, is the leading scorer for the senior men's national team with 51 goals.

This has led to Atsu coming to the defence of the current strikers, claiming focus should be given to the young players who are coming up now instead of comparing them to their predecessors.

Asamoah Gyan is not giving up on his dreams of playing at a fourth FIFA World Cup, as he draws inspiration from the legendary Roger Milla.

The 36-year-old is currently unattached but has started training to stay fit before November's World Cup in Qatar.

Gyan, who was speaking to the BBC, believes he might be a surprise inclusion to Otto Addo's team for the global showpiece.
