Black Stars defender Denis Odoi has disclosed he does not talk with his father.

The 33-year-old Club Brugge defender believes his father's 'opportunistic' lifestyle forced him to sever communication ties with him.

Born in Leuven to a Ghanaian father and a Belgian mother, Denis Odoi opened up about his estranged relationship with his dad.

“My father and I, don’t talk anymore. I blame him for certain things, like when I became a professional football player and made good money at Anderlecht and was annoyed with him because all he asked was, ‘Can I have money?’” he told The Times as quoted by Football Ghana.

According to him, his dad's absence during his formative years has shaped him into a more responsible human being.

“My dad would go out [at night] and come back whenever it suited him,” he says.
“My mom made a decision to marry my dad also because she was pregnant with me and my sister. She was, ‘Okay, I put myself in this situation so I have to take responsibility.’ That’s also why I’m very disciplined and take responsibility."

Memphis Depay mends his frosty relationship with father

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Memphis Depay says he is 'now cool' with his father following years of not being on good terms after his Ghanaian dad abandoned him at a young age.

The Barcelona star grew up without a father figure at home, making it difficult for him at the early stages of his life on the streets of Moordrecht.

In a video posted on social media, the 28-year-old revealed that he has forgiven his father and they are 'now cool'.
