Dauda Mohammed has explained his conspicuous absence from the recent Black Stars squad.

The 24-year-old forward received an invite for Ghana's 2023 AFCON qualifiers and the pre-World Cup tournament in Japan however, the former Asante Kotoko striker failed to honour the call.

In his absence, the Black Stars of Ghana mustered a win and a draw in the AFCON qualifiers while finishing third in the 2022 Kirin Challenge Cup.

Detailing why he was unable to honour the invite, Dauda explained he had a pressing issue which required his presence at home, hence his absence from the Black Stars squad.

“Just recently, coach Otto Addo spoke to me. He said he saw me doing good things in Spain. After the game against Madagascar, I had the call to join the team [Black Stars] for the Kirin Cup but I had some family issues that I needed to sort out,” the 24-year-old told TV3 as quoted by Football Ghana.

Dauda scored 9 goals in the Spanish lower side after featuring 39 times for the club. He joined Spanish lower-tier outfit FC Cartagena on loan from Belgian side, Anderlecht.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Spanish lower-tier outfit FC Cartagena has confirmed that ex-Asante Kotoko striker Dauda Mohammed has received a call-up to the Black Stars ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Black Stars commenced their qualification for the biennial continental competition with a comprehensive win against Madagascar before playing out a 1-1 draw with the Central Africa Republic for its second group game.

In a post on Twitter, spotted by Sports Brief, FC Cartagena announced the 22-year-old Anderlecht loanee had received a call-up for next month's qualifiers.
