Black Stars and Arsenal midfield linchpin Thomas Partey has opened up on the most important goal he has scored in his career.
The 28-year-old is known for his tireless work rate from midfield interlaced with his excellent passing range and a penchant for goals from the top drawer.
Opening up on his most memorable goal, the former Atletico Madrid man singled out his effort from outside the box against Nigeria during the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers earlier this year.
“I’ll say it’s the most important goal in my career at the moment. It’s a goal that took us to the World Cup so I feel happy, the whole team feels happy and the country is happy, so it’s a joy to be the one to score that goal. I feel blessed and I feel happy.” He told Joy Sports.
How did Partey qualify Ghana for the World Cup with his goal?
Partey led Ghana in the absence of the suspended Andre Ayew in the World Cup playoffs against neighbours Nigeria.
With the first leg ending in a goalless draw, the odds were stacked against Partey and his Ghanaian teammates but the Arsenal midfielder icon will silence the vociferous home crowd in Nigeria with an early goal.
His goal was however cancelled by William Troost-Ekong from the penalty spot but a resilient Black Stars will hold on to a 1-1 draw to make a return to the Mundial, the first time since 2014.
