  • Nii Odartey Lamptey has lamented about the gross disrespect shown to him by successive GFA administrations
  • According to the 1991 FIFA U17 Golden Ball winner, the country's tendency of failing to honour its heroes is disturbing
  • A superstar as a teenager, Odartey Lamptey's career did not hit the expected heights after he was lauded as Pelé; by the Brazilian great himself

Erstwhile Ghana international Nii Odartey Lamptey has expressed disappointment on his continuous snub by successive leadership of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Odartey Lamptey was once touted as the successor to Brazilian legend Pelé after helping Ghana win the 1991 FIFA U17 World Cup believes his rich vein of experience in juvenile football merits national acknowledgement.

The ex-Elmina Sharks trainer, in his estimation, believes he should be handed a coaching role with any of the junior sides considering his immense success at that level during his playing days.

“With the National teams, I used to say it is about time and I believe as I speak now, I should be given one of the junior national teams to coach. It really pains me, but I will say God’s time is always the best." Lamptey told Angel TV as quoted by Ghanaweb.
“Recently, I heard of the upcoming WAFU Zone B U-17 championship to be hosted in Cape Coast, and if nothing at all, I should have been given that respect by giving me an invitation as an ambassador…. But I didn’t know, I only read it on the internet.
“Because if you take someone like me [Odartey Lamptey] who has been there and seen it all and not part of any of the U-15, 17, and 20 till now… then it’s worrying,” Nii Odartey Lamptey said.

He lamented about how the country poorly treats its heroes citing how ex-football stars like Seedorf and Kaka are being used for ambassadorial roles.

“Well, this is the part of the country we live in but it’s really sad. if you recall the just ended UEFA Champions League, former AC Milan and Netherland legend Clarence Seedorf was [made] an ambassador taking the trophy on tour across the World” he ended.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Nii Odartey Lamptey, a former Ghana international, has successfully won his legal case against his ex-wife to reclaim his East Legon Mansion.

The former U17 World Cup winner lost his property to Ms Gloria Appiah after the former lovers divorced following a revelation that his two daughters with the woman were not his biological children.

Reports coming in shows that, the ex-footballer has now won the case against his ex-lover and can now move into the mansion in East Legon.
