Meet the Three Debutants in Ghana’s Squad For 2023 AFCON Qualifiers

• Ghana coach Otto Addo has invited three new players to the Black Stars squad to face for the 2023 AFCON qualifiers

Ghana head coach Otto Addo has announced his squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and the Central Africa Republic.

The 33-man Black Stars squad includes some new faces who have received their debut call-ups.

The three new players are Bechem United's Augustine Okrah, Alidu Seidu of Ligue 1 club Clermont Foot and Bristol City's forward Antoine Semenyo.

Ghana will square off against Madagascar on June 1 before playing the Central Africa Republic four days later.

The Black Stars will also be involved in the Kirin Cup tournament in Japan next month as part of preparations for the World Cup.

The debutants have played crucial roles for their respective clubs and are now set for international duty in Ghana colours.

Antoine Semenyo

Semenyo was the leading marksman for Bristol City last season. He was involved in 20 goals for Championship club in the just-ended English second-tier, scoring on eight occasions and providing 12 assists.

The 22-year-old striker missed out on Ghana's World Cup doubleheader in March due to injury but will have the opportunity to represent the West African nation in next month's qualifiers.

Augustine Okrah

Okrah has been outstanding in the ongoing Ghana Premier League campaign for Bechem United.

The former Asante Kotoko playmaker has guided the Hunters to the FA Cup final and are also in contention for the Ghana Premier League title.

The diminutive player has scored 14 goals for the Hunters in the league.

Alidu Seidu

Seidu has appeared in 21 games for Clermont this season in the French Ligue 1.

The 22-year-old is a utility player who can play across the various positions in defence but is usually deployed in the right-back role.

Seidu joined Clermont Foot from the JMG Academy. He made his debut with Clermont in a 1–1 Ligue 2 draw with Toulouse FC on 19 September 2020.

Thomas Partey misses out on Ghana's squad ahead of 2023 AFCON qualifiers

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that the Black Stars have been dealt a massive injury blow as deputy skipper Thomas Partey is set to miss Ghana's 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers next month.

Partey sustained muscle damage in a Premier League fixture against Jordan Ayew's Crystal Palace in February and is currently recuperating.

Despite returning to full-scale training at Arsenal, the midfield linchpin will miss next month's qualifiers and international friendlies, according to reports emerging in the local media.
