Spanish lower tier outfit FC Cartagena has confirmed that ex-Asante Kotoko striker Dauda Mohammed has received a call-up to the Black Stars ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Black Stars will commence their qualification for the biennial continental competition with a home game against Madagascar before heading to the Central Africa Republic for its second group game.

Despite missing out on the World Cup qualification doubleheader against Nigeria, his superb form with the La Liga 2 side has earned him a call-up to the national team ahead of next month's international break.

He has scored nine goals and provided three assists in 39 games in this campaign and is expected to beef up the Black Stars attack, which has failed to deliver goals recently.

Aside from the qualifiers, the four-time African champions will use the international break to prepare adequately for the World Cup as they participate in a four-nation tournament that includes Japan, Chile and Tunisia next month.

How did Cartagena break the news?

Ghana handed a tricky draw for the 2023 AFCON Qualifiers

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghana has drawn Madagascar, Angola and Central African Republic in the qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars, who have qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, must fight for a qualification slot in Group E.

None of Ghana's opponents qualified for the last Africa Cup of Nations, which was held in Cameroon.
