  • Black Stars goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott has hailed his compatriot Daniel-Kofi Kyereh as his best friend in the senior national team
  • The pair have spent close six months together at the senior national team after they earned their debut call-ups against Zimbabwe in October 2021
  • Wollacott, who received a lot of backlash for his underwhelming display at the 2021 AFCON, became a cult hero for his instrumental role in Ghana's return to the FIFA World Cup

Ghana goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott has revealed that Daniel-Kofi Kyereh is his best friend at the Black Stars.

The Swindon Town goalkeeper earned his first call-up to the Ghana national team for 2022 World Cup qualification game against Zimbabwe last year.

It’s clear that Wollacott is not a popular figure in the Black Stars camp, and he is thought to be particularly close to England-based players Andy Yiadom and Jordan Ayew.

But it’s a German-based Ghanaian who he sees as his best mate, as he explained in an interview with Happy FM.

"I relate with everyone but my friend is Daniel-Kofi Kyere. He is such a very good player. But everyone makes me feel welcome in the team," Wollacott said as quoted by GhanaWeb.

Wollacott Wants to Win AFCON With Black Stars

Wollacott added that he wants to win the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with the Black Stars, a feat which was last attained by the West African nation 40 years ago.

The 25-year-old did not mince words in seeking to bring joy to Ghanaians by winning the AFCON title.

"With Ghana, I want to be successful at the World Cup, win AFCON, bring enjoyment to Ghanaians," Wollacott said.

The AFCON crown has proved elusive for Ghana despite appearing in three finals since their last success four decades ago.

In Ghana's last appearance at the biennial competition, the Black Stars failed to qualify from the group stage for the first time in the history of the tournament and will want to banish those ghosts sooner rather than later with the 2023 AFCON on the horizon.

Jojo Wollacott Named in EFL League Two Team of the Season

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Jojo Wollacot has been named in the 2021-22 League Two Team of the season following his excellent performances this campaign.

Having joined Swindon Town from Championship club Bristol City last year, Wollacott has been in sensational form between the sticks since becoming a Robin.

The 25-year-old has kept 11 clean sheets in 37 appearances so far in the league for his team.
