  • Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has sent a message to the Black Stars regarding their World Cup game against Uruguay
  • The West African giants have been paired alongside Uruguay in Group H of Qatar 2022 and face the South Americans in their final group game
  • Asamoah Gyan has advised the Black Stars to not focus on revenge but rather make the next stage their target

Legendary Ghanaian forward Asamoah Gyan has delivered a word of advise to the Black Stars before their World Cup encounter against Uruguay.

The senior national team is poised on getting revenge against the country that prevented them from becoming the first African side to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup.

Gyan, who missed a penalty that could have sent Ghana through to the last four, has told the Black Stars to be focused and make the objective of making it out of the group their target.

"Most important thing is to qualify from (World Cup) group stage and go further. When we think about revenge (v Uruguay), it's good. It boosts your morale but it's a different generation," he told Metro TV as quoted by footydreams.com.

Asamoah Gyan habours regret from that game against Uruguay, but seems to have given up on revenge as it is not clear if he will be in the team for the World Cup.

The country's all-time leading scorer last played for the Black Stars at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt 2019.

However, he holds the record of being the African player with the most goals from the FIFA World Cup, with six from three tournaments.

Ghana will open their Qatar 2022 campaign against Portugal before facing South Korea and Uruguay respectively.

Asamoah Gyan wants Ghanaians to stop Afena-Gyan comparisons

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghana's all-time leading scorer Asamoah Gyan has shot down comparisons between himself and AS Roma starlet Felix Afena-Gyan.

Aside from the similarities in their surname, Ghanaian football enthusiasts have drawn comparisons between the aforementioned duo following Afena-Gyan's debut appearance for the Black Stars.

But the former Ghana captain reckons it is too early to make such comparisons despite the visible similarities in their style of play.
