Angola Coach Tips Ghana to Top 2023 Africa Cup Qualifying Group

Angola national football team head coach Pedro Goncalves has tipped Ghana as favourites to top their group of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Black Stars have been paired with Madagascar, the Central African Republic and Angola in Group E, with the top two teams guaranteed qualification to next year’s competition.

Otto Addo and his charges will begin their campaign to Ivory Coast 2023 in June this year.

And Goncalves in an interview has tipped Ghana as favourites to sail through the group. He believes that his outfit, Angola, will have to battle for the second slot.

“Ghana is a very powerful national team in Africa; one of the five teams representing Africa at the World Cup. So sure, they are favorites," Goncalves said via Citi Sports.
“I believe between Angola, Madagascar and Central African Republic, it will be a big fight but I believe we will make it,” he added.

When is AFCON 2023 Qualifiers Starting

The qualifiers is expected to start on 30th May and 14 June with match days one and two.

The draw for the 2023 African Cup of Nations took place this evening in Johannesburg to a live international audience.

The 2023 AFCON - the 33rd edition of the continental showpiece - is set to take place between June and July of next year in the Ivory Coast.

Forty-seven other countries will walk the path towards attempting to dethrone champions Senegal, which won its inaugural title back in February in Cameroon.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former Ghana international Yaw Preko has cautioned that players who want to play in the 2022 World Cup must be ready to play in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Black Stars are making a return to the World Cup after qualifying at the expense of Nigeria in the play-offs.

The Ghana Football Association has been in talks with certain players in an attempt to convince them to play for the Black Stars following Ghana's qualification to the Mundial.
