Ghana's all-time leading scorer Asamoah Gyan has made an interesting revelation of the conversation that ensued between him and ex-captain Stephen Appiah during the quarter-finals of the World Cup against Uruguay in South Africa 2010.

A famous photo from that game showed Stephen Appiah remonstrating at Asamoah Gyan after missing the final minute penalty against Uruguay, with many describing the moment as the former Juventus star warning Gyan for taking the spot kick.

However, twelve years after the incident, Gyan finally lift the lids stating Appiah was just trying to motivate him to stay positive after the miss.

"He was telling me not to think that I won’t play but that caption (that picture) came with a lot of opinions. In Ghana, they like spreading negative news and everyone has something to say when anything happens. They were saying he warned me not to play and they even said Appiah stated 'have you seen what you’ve done' after the penalty," he told Peace FM as quoted by FootballGhana.

Ghana ended up losing 4-2 on penalties to miss out on reaching the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup in 2010.

The Black Stars became the third country from Africa after Cameroon and Senegal to reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
