The country's all-time leading scorer has not featured for the Black Stars since the Nations Cup in 2019, and has been inactive for a year.

"As far as I am not retired, I have to earn the call up. I have to train and get a team and also be performing to get a call. I have to get the call up based on merit," he said.
"I've heard of the Roger Milla story, but the most important thing is I have to be fit physically. I am naturally gifted and can do anything on the pitch but physically I don't think I am ready," he added.

Asamoah Gyan holds the record as the African with the most goals at the FIFA World Cup.

He was part of the team that first qualified for the World Cup in 2006 and played a role as Ghana reached the quarter finals four years later in South Africa.

Gyan also captained the team at the World Cup in Brazil 2014.

Asamoah Gyan reveals nearly punching Luis Suarez

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghana's all-time top scorer Asamoah Gyan has confessed he nearly punched Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez after the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The enigmatic Suarez stood between the Black Stars and a semifinal berth at the global showpiece with the former FC Barcelona striker handling a goal-bound effort from Dominic Adiyiah in the dying embers of a quarterfinal clash between Ghana and Uruguay.

Suarez's handball led to a dismissal with Ghana handed a penalty however the resulting penalty was missed by the usually efficient Asamoah Gyan, who had previously scored two spot-kicks in the tournament.
