  • Ghana's Black Stars qualified for the World Cup after edging Nigeria in a two-legged play-off last month

Hassan Ayariga, the leader of the All Peoples Political Party, has expressed his opinion on the height of players called up for international assignments with the Black Stars.

The outspoken politician insists the technical team needs to seriously consider the heights of players invited into the Black Stars, as it plays a role in the kind of opponents Ghana faces at tournaments.

With Ghana qualifying for the World Cup, Hassan Ayariga, who was speaking to GH One TV, stated short players get bullied if their opponents have a size advantage.

"Height is an important aspect of our football, Ghanaians like putting short players and you see sometimes it's a disadvantage to us because you go and Nigeria have all these huge players and you the player become like a son to him," he said in a video spotted on Twitter.
"So we have to look at the height in terms of picking players. It is very important in football because when you put so many of the short players in the field you are going to have problem if the opponent are huge. It is a strategic way of picking players. I am not against short players," he added.

The Black Stars edged Nigeria to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar later this year and Ayariga will be hoping his advice is taken by the coaches of the national team.

Ghana will face Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay in Group H of the tournament in Qatar.
