US-based Ghanaian coach Robert Sackey has tipped the Black Stars to reach the semifinals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana, which will be participating in the global showpiece for the fourth time in its history, has been pitted in Group H against European heavyweights Portugal, Uruguay and the Korea Republic.

Despite the tough group handed to the West African nation, coach Robert Sackey has backed the Black Stars to travel far in the Mundial.

“Ghana’s group is a good group and if we prepare well, we can make it to the next round and move on to make history this time around. I think the draw is one of the best groups for Ghana. I believe we can qualify from the group to the next stage,” Coach Robert Sackey told Graphic Sports as quoted by Football Ghana.

Ghana is one of three African countries to reach the quarterfinal stage of the World Cup but the sitting president His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo has set a dizzying target of the semifinals for the four-time African champions.

The Ghanaian tactician continued: “I believe Ghana can achieve President Akufo-Addo’s target of seeing the Black Stars reach the semi-finals and even making history by making it to the grand final in Qatar.”

Hollywood actor throws weight behind Ghana ahead of World Cup

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that British actor, producer and musician Idris Elba declared his support for Ghana's Black Stars at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year.

The English-born Hollywood star, who has lineage to the West African country was in Doha last week to host the World Cup draw.

In a video posted on social media, The Harder They Fall star disclosed he will be rooting for the Black Stars.
