  • Ghana handed the Korea Republic a 4-0 pummeling in a preparatory match prior to the 2014 World Cup
  • Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew bagged a hattrick in the game, coincidentally that was the last time a player scored three goals for the Black Stars
  • The Black Stars will hope to repeat the same dose later this year when both sides cross swords in Group H of the World Cup

Eight-year-old footage featuring the Black Stars and the Korea Republic in a pre-tournament friendly ahead of the 2014 World Cup has surfaced on the internet.

This follows Ghana's 2022 World Cup draw, where the Black Stars have been pitched against 2016 European champions Portugal, South American heavyweights Uruguay and the Korea Republic in Group H.

Ghana makes a return to the Mundial after missing out on the last edition and will want to make amends for their 8-year hiatus at the global showpiece.

In what promises to be a difficult group, the West African nation will have to dig deep and find the form that helped them navigate through the group stages in 2006 and 2014.

Coming up against Portugal in their first game, Ghana will have revenge on their minds after succumbing to the Europeans in 2014.

Again revenge will be on the minds of the West Africans when they lock horns against Uruguay, who denied Ghana from becoming the first African side to reach the semifinals of the World Cup in 2010.

Against the Korea Republic, Ghana would have nostalgic memories against the Asians despite not facing them in tournaments before.

What happened when Ghana last played the Korea Republic?

Prior to Ghana's participation in its third World Cup, they played a host of preparatory matches including one against 2022 group opponents, the Korea Republic.

Parading a star-studded squad, the Black Stars fielded future captain Andre Ayew, Sulley Muntari, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Jordan Ayew.

The Black Stars made light work out of their counterparts from Asia in the said preparatory game at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on June 9, 2014.

Jordan Ayew bagged a hattrick in the game with legendary forward Asamoah Gyan netting once as Ghana thrashed South Korea 4-0.

Black Stars drawn in Group H alongside Uruguay, Korea Republic & Portugal

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that four-time African champions, Ghana have been drawn alongside European heavyweights Portugal, former World Champions Uruguay and South Korea.

The Black Stars will open their campaign at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with a blockbuster clash against Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal.

Ghana is appearing at the World Cup for the fourth time after missing the 2018 edition in Russia.
