  • Despite Nigeria's star-studded squad, the former Ghana international reckons the Black Stars will edge their counterparts from Nigeria
  • Ghana and Nigeria will renew hostilities later this month in a crucial two-legged showdown for a place in the World Cup

Ex-Black Stars shot-stopper William Amamoo has expressed his complete belief in the senior men's national team ahead of the upcoming World cup play-offs against Nigeria.

Ghana will host their West African neighbours in the first leg on March 25 before heading to the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja for the reverse fixture four days later.

The Black Stars are seeking to return to the World Cup for the first time since 2014, while Nigeria is aiming for a fourth successive appearance at the global showpiece.

Despite Ghana's sweat over where to host the first leg following the Independence Day celebrations at the Cape Coast Stadium - which has left the pitch in a terrible state - Amamoo is confident the Black Stars will post a win over the Super Eagles.

"Matches between Ghana and Nigeria doesn’t follow form guide and because of that I have a strong believe that Ghana will beat Nigeria," Amamoo told Top FM as quoted by Football Ghana.

He reasoned matches between the West African rivals are not based on form and likened it to the Super Clash.

"Ghana and Nigeria games are just like that of Hearts of Oak SC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC, though Kotoko was in a great form, they couldn’t beat struggling Hearts and that gives me the Believe that Ghana will win on 25th by all means."
"Ghana must beat Nigeria heavily here in Ghana in the first leg to make the second in Nigeria a mere formality just as we did in 2014 against Egypt when we beat them 6-1 here before the second game in Cairo." He concluded.

Amokachi mocks Ghana over the search of venue for World Cup match

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former Nigeria player and manager Daniel Amokachi has subtly jabbed the Black Stars as Ghana sweats over the readiness of the Cape Coast Stadium for the first leg of the FIFA World Cup play-offs.

Ghana is in hot waters over the readiness of the Cape Coast Stadium to host Nigeria for the first leg with pictures on the internet showing a deplorable state of the pitch.

The terrible nature of the pitch has caused a massive stir on where the first instalment of the crucial tie will be played with various reports suggesting the venue might be changed with Benin, Cameroon and Morocco all on standby to host the two West African rivals.
