Proud Ghanaian Footballers Celebrate Country’s 65th Independent Anniversary in Style

  • Footballers took pride in celebrating the day by posting messages of hope and prosperity in the coming years

West African football powerhouse, Ghana celebrated it's 65th independence anniversary on Sunday, March 6th , 2022 with celebrations across the country.

Ghanaian footballers were not left out of the momentous occasion as they took to social media to share their pride.

From those plying their trade in Ghana to those born and raised abroad, they all sent goodwill messages on it's 65th anniversary.

In football, Ghana is regarded as one of the best on the continent, having won four Africa Cup of Nations titles despite it's poor showing in recent times.

The West African country also remains the only African side to win the U20 World Cup.

What the players wrote on social media:

Black Stars and Columbus Crew defender Jonathan Mensah wrote: "Happy Independence Day Ghana! Filled with courage, peace and happiness. Let us celebrate this special day! I celebrate by calling my family back home with the app, and send money to them."
AS Roma youngster Felix Afena-Gyan tweeted: "Happy Independence Day to my beloved country."
Kamaldeen Sulemana of Stade Rennais added: "God bless our homeland."
Captain of the senior national team, Andre Ayew posted: "Happy Independence day my beloved country."
Former Black Maidens captain, Abdulai Mukarama added: "Happy Independence Day To Our Beloved Country."
"God bless our homeland," wrote Daniel Kofi Kyereh.

Felix Afena-Gyan makes serie A comeback after injury

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghanaian teenager Felix Afena-Gyan made a cameo appearance for AS Roma in their hard-fought victory over Atalanta at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday.

A Tammy Abraham strike was enough to hand Jose Mourinho's side their second consecutive win in Serie A.

Afena-Gyan started the game from the bench and he was introduced late in the game after he replaced Rick Karsdorp in the 83rd minute.
