AFCON 2021: Match Preview - Ghana seek redemption against Aubamayeng's Gabon
- The Black Stars of Ghana will be hoping to get their AFCON campaign back on track with victory against Gabon on Friday
- The four times African champions lost their opening game against Morocco on Monday
- Gabon won their opener against Comoros and have talisman Pierre Emerick Aubamayeng returning for the Ghana game
Four times African champions, Ghana look set to get their Cup of Nations campaign back on track when they face the Panthers of Gabon on Friday at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo.
The Black Stars lost their group C opener last Monday to the Atlas Lions of Morocco, and anything short of victory will mean Ghana's chances of progress becomes slimmer.
Ghana has a good record against the Panthers of Gabon and will be looking at extending their hold on Pierre-Emerick Aubamayeng and his teammates.
The West African giants have won the last two meetings against Gabon, including a friendly in 2011, where Ghana recorded a 2-1 victory.
Gabon head into the game with confidence after their opening day victory against Comoros Island, and they did that without their Arsenal star and Mario Lemina.
Aubamayeng and Lemina missed the Comoros match due to COVID-19, but the pair have returned to training and are fit for tonight's game.
Ghana captain Andre Ayew, who sat out of Wednesday's training has been declared fit, giving the Black Stars a clean bill of health.
Ayew and his brother, Jordan Ayew, are expected to start in attack with Joseph Painstil and Kamaldeen Sulemana giving width to the team.
Ghana has lost it's last two games, a defeat to Algeria and Morocco, while Gabon has drawn and won it's last two matches.
Gabon captain Pierre-Emerick Aubamayeng recovers ahead of Ghana game
Earlier, SportsBrief.com reported that, Pierre-Emerick Aubamayeng will be looking at putting his recent troubles behind him when Gabon face Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations on Friday.
The Arsenal star and Gabon captain looks to have recovered from COVID-19, which kept him out of his country's group C opener against Comoros Island.
But the forward confirmed his availability with a post on his Instagram story, showing him training with the Panthers.
