Ghanaian football fans have been left livid after the Black Stars' poor display in the 3-0 defeat to Algeria in a pre-AFCON friendly in Qatar on Wednesday night.

A first half strike from Adam Ounas, and an own goal from Jonathan Mensah before a third from Islam Slimani's deflated Ghanaian hopes before the Nations Cup begins on Sunday.

Fans reacted to the performance, with many venting their frustrations on Social Media while other think expectations have to be managed.

A horrible defending from Gideon Mensah saw him getting dummied by Ounas to break the game's deadlock.

And following waves and waves of attack, Algeria forced an error out of defender Jonathan Mensah, who scored an own goal. Two minutes later Islam Slimani made it 3-0.

Ghana's hopes of ending a 40-year wait for an AFCON trophy has been given a reality check before the tournament begins on Sunday.

"Barcelona and Black stars no difference," wrote Onua on Twitter.
"Today’s a good example of why I personally believe we’ve been overly critical of Jordan. He may not be a regular goalscorer, but his overall game makes him the best striker we have. We’ve had better strikers but he’s the best at the moment. Hard truth," wrote Fentuo Tahiru, a sports journalist.
"With the benefit of hindsight the Algeria friendly probably did more harm than good. I’m struggling for any positives from a technical point of view. Instead, the confidence and mood of the camp will take a nosedive. Wish we played a team closer to our level," adds Owurako Ampofo.
"Manage your Ghana Afcon expectations. At the peak of our powers, winning was problematic. Even more complicated in an uncertain period. Officials can shout "we will win". Don't fall for it. We even said we will win the world cup," Michael Oti Adjei wrote.
