Galatasaray are reportedly pursuing Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes as part of an ambitious summer recruitment drive, with the Turkish champions seeking to strengthen their European credentials by pairing the 31-year-old Portugal international with striker Victor Osimhen.
According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Galatasaray view Fernandes as a primary target as they look to reshape their midfield by adding both a marquee number 10 and a number 6. The Istanbul club believes a combination of Fernandes’ creative output and Osimhen’s finishing ability would give them the platform to compete with Europe’s established elite.
Any deal for Fernandes would require Galatasaray to activate the £57 million overseas release clause contained within his current Manchester United contract, which is valid until the end of the 2026/27 campaign, with an option for a further year. The financial commitment is significant, though the club demonstrated their capacity for high-profile acquisitions when they secured Osimhen on a permanent basis last summer.
The player’s own intentions, however, represent an equally substantial hurdle. Fernandes has previously made clear that his future at Old Trafford depends on his assessment of the club’s ability to compete at the highest level. That calculation may have shifted following Manchester United’s 3-2 victory over Liverpool, a result that mathematically confirmed their qualification for the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League — a significant development in the context of any potential departure.
Galatasaray’s reported interest in Fernandes reflects a broader strategic vision at the club. Having already invested heavily in Osimhen, the reigning Turkish champions appear intent on building a squad with genuine continental ambitions rather than simply dominating domestically. Osimhen, who joined on a permanent deal following an initial loan spell from Napoli, has been central to Galatasaray’s forward play and the addition of a creative midfielder of Fernandes’ calibre would represent a considerable upgrade in their ability to unlock defences in European competition.
Fernandes remains one of the most productive midfielders in English football. Since joining United from Sporting CP in January 2020, the Portuguese international has accumulated over 100 goals and assists in the Premier League, establishing himself as the club’s most influential attacking presence. His captaincy and consistent output have made him a cornerstone of the squad under successive managers.
Whether Galatasaray can convert their reported interest into a concrete approach remains to be seen. Manchester United’s return to Champions League football next season strengthens the club’s negotiating position and may reduce Fernandes’ motivation to seek a move. Nevertheless, the Turkish club’s willingness to meet a £57 million release clause signals that their ambitions for the coming transfer window are substantial.
