Brazil assistant coach Davide Ancelotti has publicly identified Chelsea teenager Estevao Willian as one of the most exciting emerging talents in world football, tipping the 18-year-old to announce himself on the global stage at this summer’s FIFA World Cup.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Ancelotti offered an unambiguous endorsement of the young forward. “The guy that will surprise you is someone who is not so well known… If I have to give you a name, Estevao is one of the rising talents of Brazil,” he said. “He is a really big talent. He is a really good finisher, so he is someone who can dominate in Europe as a talent for the next few years.”

Estevao Willian made his senior international debut for Brazil at the age of 17 and has since accumulated five goals across 11 appearances for the Selecao. He registered his first senior international goal on September 5 against Chile, a milestone that underlined the rapid trajectory of his development at the highest level.

The Chelsea forward is expected to feature prominently in Brazil’s squad as the five-time world champions prepare for what will be a high-profile tournament on North American soil. Brazil have been drawn in Group C of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they will face Morocco, Haiti, and Scotland. Group stage fixtures are scheduled to run from June 13 to 24, 2026.

Brazil enter the competition as one of the tournament favourites, though their group presents a degree of unpredictability. Morocco, who reached the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, represent a well-organised and experienced side, while Scotland qualified through UEFA’s competitive European pathway. Haiti’s inclusion as debutants adds a further element of uncertainty to what could be a closely contested group.

Estevao’s rise has been closely watched since his time in Brazil, where he drew widespread attention for his performances at Palmeiras before completing a move to Chelsea. His combination of technical quality, directness, and finishing ability have drawn comparisons to some of Brazil’s previous attacking talents, though at 18, he remains at the very beginning of his senior career.

Davide Ancelotti, son of Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti, has served as part of the Brazilian coaching setup and his comments reflect the confidence within the national team camp regarding Estevao’s readiness for a major tournament environment.

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup set to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico — making it the largest edition of the tournament in history with 48 participating nations — the competition will provide a significant platform for young players to establish their reputations. For Estevao Willian, it represents an opportunity to step out of the category of promising prospect and into that of established international performer.
