Chippa United are the latest DStv Premiership to be hit with a transfer ban by football’s governing body FIFA.

Siviwe Mpengesi’s side had the ban imposed upon them after they were found guilty of failing to pay a former player.

Soccer Laduma reported that Chippa United were found guilty of failing to pay Nigerian striker Augustine Kwem after he left the club. Kwem joined TS Galaxy from the Chilli Boys last year.

Soccer Laduma added that they had seen the FIFA document directed to the South African Football Association (SAFA) and Chippa United confirming the ban.

The document read:

“We wish to inform the parties that a ban from registering new players internationally has been implemented by FIFA as of today.
“Moreover, and in accordance with the aforementioned decision, respondent´s member association is requested to immediately implement on the respondent the Club Chippa United FC, a ban from registering new players at national level.”

Chippa United are not the DStv Premiership first team to be hit with a transfer ban by FIFA.

Marumo Gallants and Kaizer Chiefs know the pain of not being allowed to buy new players.

Chiefs’ ban ended a year ago while Gallants transfer ban finally came to an end last week, The South African confirmed.

Gallants were banned over the transfer of striker Gustavo Paez. The club felt hard done by the ban as the player was originally purchased by Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivandila (TTM). When Abram Sello purchased TTM and renamed them Marumo Gallants, he, unfortunately, inherited the Paez issue and Gallants suffered the ban as a result.

Gallants have now confirmed that they had reached a settlement with Paez, bringing an end to the issue.

Confusion reigns as Marumo Gallants could be fined by FIFA, club penalised over TTM's transfer of Gustavo Paez

Marumo Gallants are in hot water with FIFA over the contract termination of Venezuelan striker, Gustavo Pae. According to the player himself, Gallants would be banned for three consecutive transfer windows.

This came after the club terminated his contract in 2020 after just a few weeks and failed to compensate him KickOff confirmed. The club was ordered to pay the Paez R2 million but when they failed to do so, FIFA handed down the ban, he told the publication.

Gustavo Paez was let go before he could play any official games for the club after it was believed that he was still contracted to a Venezuelan club, Mineros de Guayana, Sports Brief earlier reported.
