Gabriel Jesus' deflected strike in the 53rd minute of the Saturday, September 25, encounter was the difference as City bagged the three points.
According to Tuchel, his wards lacked belief as their opponents completely outplayed the Blues at home.
The German tactician suggested his players' performance was laced with fear, conceding he will also take blame for his own tactical decisions.
"We lacked belief and the confidence to escape. With every mistake we made, we lost more and more confidence," he said as quoted by Daily Mail.
"We played with a mentality that we had something to lose. It was not a good performance on any level if you want to deserve a result.
"We were so unprecise. We’re in it together, we win and lose together. I’ll ask the question of myself if it was the right shape but I’m not sure the shape was decisive to the result," he added.
The Blues boss opted for a largely conservative approach against the reigning Premier League champions who took full advantage of the move to cement their dominance in the clash.
This was Chelsea's first defeat of the season after an impeccable run of results that had them topping the charts before match-week six.
However, the loss saw them drop to third on the log as City climbed second with 13 points, just one behind leaders Liverpool.
Chelsea will now shift their focus to their upcoming Champions League trip to Juventus, before hosting Southampton in the EPL on Saturday, October 2.
Mason Mount's impact
Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported Rio Ferdinand has claimed the absence of Mason Mount contributed to Chelsea's defeat to Man City.
Ferdinand now believes Chelsea's badly missed Mount's energy in the encounter and Tuchel will now doubt be hoping the Englishman can make a speedy recovery.
"Chelsea missed Mason Mount today, the way he connects the team and his energy. I think Tuchel will want him back as soon as possible," he said.
