  • Tuchel's public utterances on Anthony Barry have not gone down well with the Chelsea board

Chelsea have reportedly been left disappointed after their former head coach, Thomas Tuchel publicly targeted one of their current staff members.

On Friday, Tuchel was appointed to take over from Julian Nagelsmann at Bayern Munich in one of the most surprising turns of events. He has been handed a two-and-a-half year contract.

This is Tuchel's first managerial post since he was sacked by Chelsea six months ago. The Champions League-winning manager is expected to hit the ground running in his first training session on Monday.

He is set to be joined by his long-term assistants, Arno Michels and Zsolt Low. Tuchel revealed the news of his appointment at Bayern had taken everyone by surprise.

"My coaching staff wasn't prepared either, so a big thank you to their families for their flexibility," he said as quoted by the Telegraph.

Tuchel's comments on Anthony Barry

The 49-year-old also confirmed he was hoping to lure Anthony Barry away from Chelsea. The two worked together during Tuchel's successful 15-month stint in North London.

"Michels and Low, who have been working with me for over 10 years, will be there. We're hoping to add Anthony Barry, who is currently at Chelsea."

It is this public declaration that is said to have angered Chelsea, who believe Tuchel should have spoken 'behind closed doors'.

The Blues are reportedly prepared to receive a bid from Bayern for the assistant coach.

Barry joined Chelsea in 2020 after being brought on from Wigan Athletic by Frank Lampard. He has previously worked for the Ireland and Belgium national teams and is currently attached to Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal as a side role.

Tuchel targets Chelsea duo

Apart from Barry, Sports Brief has reported that Tuchel could prompt the Bavarians to move for Mateo Kovacic and Edouard Mendy in the summer.

Both players' futures at Chelsea remain uncertain amid the abrasive shake-up at Stamford Bridge being undertaken by co-owner, Todd Boehly.

Kovacic and Mendy were among the most trusted lieutenants of Tuchel during his 15-month reign as Blues manager and he seems still set on them.
