  • January signings Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk assisted a goal each in the game
  • Relieved Chelsea boss Graham Potter highlights the importance of the two players

Chelsea continue their impressive run by beating relegation-threatened Leicester City 3-1 at the King Power Stadium with an outstanding attacking and defensive performance.

Former fox Ben Chilwell opened the scoring with a brilliant volley in the first half and celebrated by cupping his ear in front of the home fans. A misplaced pass from João Felix allowed Patson Daka to level for Leicester.

A delightful over-the-defence pass from Enzo Fernandez was casually slotted home by Kai Havertz just before the halftime break. Mykhailo Mudryk headed back a cross for captain Mateo Kovacic to volley home the third.

Head coach Graham Potter singled out January signing Enzo Fernandez for praise for his brilliant performance and his magical assist for Kai Havertz.

‘‘He’s a fantastic player and a young player. He’ll get better and better as he plays with us more. Because he has just arrived from another country and another league so you always have to adapt to that,’’ he said, as quoted by Metro UK.
‘‘You can see his quality, he gets the ball and passes forward, he is progressing with his mentality and he gets the team moving and gives everything. It’s a nice combination to have.’’

The English manager also praised Mudryk’s impact and said the Ukrainian would improve as he settles into the team.

‘‘He will get better and better. He’s a young player, hasn’t had that much experience so every game he will get better and better. His attitude is fantastic, he wants to help the team, work for the team so I am delighted that he could assist and help us win,’’ he said.

Potter explains Felix substitution

Sports Brief reported that Potter explained Felix's halftime substitution against Leicester City, dispelling fears it was due to an injury.

The Portuguese was on the end of two rash tackles in the first half, but the coach has revealed replacing him with Conor Gallagher was a tactical decision.
