Like most stories, his journey to the top wasn't easy. His timid nature has endeared him to people right now, Chelsea fans or not. In 2017, the 31-year-old was allegedly held at gunpoint, as reported by L'Euipe.

Kante is said to have just visited the Hauts-de-Seine restaurant in the suburbs of Rueil-Malmaison in Paris, when he was beckoned into a dark car and a gun held over his knee. The perpetrators then threatened to kill his agent Abdelkarim Douis if he did not dump him.

An investigation by Mediaport via Sportskeeda, claimed to have had recordings where Rachid Saadna, one of Kante's advisors and his brother Houari confronted Kante to drop Douis.

Kante denied the 2017 incident. The 31-year-old is expected to be available soon for Graham Potter. In his absence, Chelsea have dropped to 10th on the log but have qualified for the last 8 of the Champions League.
