  • Wesley Fofana inadvertently took out a steward during Chelsea's game at Stamford Bridge
  • The Chelsea defender was the difference maker as Graham Potter's side won their first game in seven attempts
  • Fofana is expected to be a mainstay in the Chelsea backline, with Thiago Silva facing an extended period out

Wesley Fofana eased the pressure on Graham Potter after the defender scored the solitary goal in Chelsea's win over Leeds United on Saturday.

Potter desperately needed a win as pressure continues to mount on him after Chelsea's woeful run that saw him record only two wins in 15 games.

Fofana scored in the second half after he rose highest to meet Ben Chilwell's career in the 53rd minute.

The Frenchman also put a string of decent contributions on the other end as he stepped up to fill the Thiago Silva role. The veteran defender is set to be put for at least six weeks after damaging his knee ligaments last week.

Fofana takes out steward

However, Fofana was involved in another incident when he wiped out a steward and a photographer as Leeds pressed on for a late equaliser.

Fofana battled for the ball with William Gnonto, with the Italian sending Fofana out of the pitch. Fofana took out a steward who was coming around the corner, who in turn clattered into a photographer.

Fans were left surprised after the 22-year-old didn't check on the steward to see if she was okay.

"Fofana not even acknowledging that steward he tripped rubbed me the wrong way not gonna lie."

Fofana as Silva's replacement

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Chelsea were recently dealt a devastating blow as Thiago Silva was ruled out of action for up to six weeks with knee ligament damage.

The 38-year-old veteran defender only lasted 19 minutes in the London derby against Tottenham Hotspur and had to be replaced by Wesley Fofana. There is another way of looking at Silva's injury, as it provides a massive chance for Chelsea to perhaps make adjustments in defence, which they may not even know they need.

The defender's replacement on Sunday, Fofana, could end up becoming a crucial part of Chelsea's turnaround this season in particular.
