Olivier Giroud, Chelsea striker, emerges as January target for Crystal Palace

- Olivier Giroud who plays for Chelsea is wanted by Crystal Palace when transfer window opens

- Crystal Palace want the France international to bolster their squad in January

- Giroud is also said to be interested in leaving and has told Chelsea manager Frank Lampard

Premier League side Crystal Palace are reportedly eyeing up a January move for Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud as Roy Hodgson wants a reliable goalscorer.

Crystal Palace are currently among the top six teams in the Premier League and manager Hodgson wants to maintain the challenge for the European qualification.

Olivier Giroud has not started any game for Chelsea since August, and according to the report on UK Sun, the France international has told Lampard about a possible move in January.

His current contract with the Stamford Bridge landlords will expire at the end of the season, but Giroud feels he could miss 2020 Euro if he fails to command regular playing time.

The report added that Chelsea manager Frank Lampard wants Olivier Giroud to stay so as to be a cover up for Tammy Abraham, but the Frenchman does not want to continue as second fiddle.

If the Blues do agree to let him leave, they would only require a nominal transfer fee in the region of £3 million.

And that is not expected to be a problem for Crystal Palace who are still keeping the £45 million they got from Manchester United for the signing of defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Olivier Giroud lauded Chelsea chiefs for the appointment of club legend Frank Lampard as the new coach of the club.

The 41-year-old succeeded former boss Maurizio Sarri after signing a three year deal with the Premier League club this summer.
