Former Super Eagles captain, Mikel John Obi has saluted Michael Essien for his brilliant style of play, claiming the retired Ghanaian footballer was the engine room during their days at Chelsea.

The two African midfielders played together at the zenith of their careers, winning the Premier League and the Champions League.

Before Obi even moved to Chelsea, there was controversy between the Blues and Manchester United over his signature, but the Nigerian eventually signed on to play at Stamford Bridge.

According to the video spotted on Twitter, Obi disclosed that Essien was an exceptional player for the Blues.

Obi: Essien deserves more credit

"Essien never gets the credit he deserves. We call him the train; he is a powerful machine. The way he trains, everyday he is working and apart from playing football, he is a complete gentleman.''

Essien's days at Chelsea

Essien moved to Chelsea from Lyon in 2005 and he was at Stamford Bridge until 2014 before he moved to AC Milan.

The Ghanaian won two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, one EFL Cup and one Champions League title with the Blues.

Meanwhile, the 40-year-old recently acquired his coaching certificate and the world will be looking forward to seeing his next course of action.

Mikel speaks about Hazard

Sports Brief also reported on former Nigeria and Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel describing his ex-teammate, Eden Hazard as the laziest player he teamed up with.

The enormously talented Belgian star, who currently plays for Real Madrid, has struggled with injuries since moving to Spain and has almost become a forgotten star.

Mikel has now revealed some fascinating insight into a player who at one point was set for global greatness, mentioning how Hazard did not participate in training but somehow still delivered in matches.
