Michael Essien has sent a heartfelt message to his former Ghana and Chelsea teammate, Christian Atsu after he was found a day after an earthquake in the Hatay region of Turkey.

The Ghanaian winger was rescued in the early hours of Tuesday morning, from the collapsed ruins of the apartment he was living in with some of his Hatayaspor teammates.

Atsu was rushed to the hospital, where he is receiving treatment after suffering injuries to his leg.

Essien, who spent time with Atsu in the national team and at the Blues in the Premier League, took to social media to wish his friend speedy recovery.

"Get well soon brother, Christian Atsu," he posted on Twitter.

Atsu plies his trade with Turkish Super Lig side, Hatayspor and was the match-hero on Sunday after coming off the bench to score the winner against Kasimpasa.

He joined the Turkish giants in September last year and was making only his third appearance for the club over the weekend.

Atsu previously played for Porto, Chelsea, AFC Bournemouth, Newcastle United and Everton, and also had stint in Spain with Malaga.

Atsu rescued from rubble

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Ghanaian winger, Atsu reportedly being found alive after hours of being buried under rubble, following the earthquake that hit Turkey.

The 31-year-old went missing after disaster hit the province of Hatay on Monday, just hours after he scored the winner in Hatayaspor's game against Kasimpasa.

The winger and the club's Sporting Director, Taner Savut were both trapped under the wreckage after the building they were living in collapsed.

Hatayspor provide updates on Atsu

Vice President of Turkish club Hatayaspor, Mustafa Ozat has given updates on two of their team members trapped under rubble following an earthquake in Turkey.

Winger, Atsu and club director, Savut were yet to be found after the apartment the team were living in collapsed after a 7.7 magnitude earthquake.

Although some players and members of the technical team had been pulled out of the rubbles, two members of the Turkish side were still missing.
