  • Chelsea had an opening offer of £55m rejected for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo
  • The Blues will reportedly return with an improved offer for the Ecuadorian after drab Liverpool draw
  • The result at Anfield was majorly influenced by poor midfield play and Caicedo becomes a priority

Chelsea's spending spree is far from over as two major priority positions are yet to be covered, the defensive midfielder and right back are two positions that need addressing this January regardless of how much has been spent.

Ecuadorian defensive midfielder Moises Caicedo is the target after failing to agree a move for Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez from Benfica. Chelsea have tested Brighton's resolve with £55m which was rejected.

According to reports from Mirror UK, Chelsea will return this week with an improved offer of £65m, hoping it would tempt the South Coast club to part ways with their player.

Chelsea have time to complete deals

After their midtable 0-0 draw with Liverpool, a match which turned out as expected between two struggling top teams, the Blues will not be in action again till February 3, against London rivals Fulham, as reported by Radio Times.

This would allow Graham Potter to have enough time with his team and welcome some injured players back, as well as potential incomings to acclimate to the team before their first games.

The major problem for the Blues at Anfield was their midfield, which struggled to protect the defence and build the attack, and this makes signing Caicedo a priority before Chelsea return to action again in February.

Chelsea fans react to rejected opening offer

Sports Brief earlier reported that Chelsea fans reacted angrily to the rejected offer by Brighton, slamming the seagulls as being greedy for wanting a ridiculous amount for a player they sign just less than two years ago.

After watching the performance of their midfielders, Jorginho, Mason Mount, Connor Gallagher and Carney Chukwuemeka today, their reaction should be reversed and directed at their board.

The Blues also face the last 10 days of the winter transfer window knowing they have to make some outgoings to balance their books and allow some new signings be registered for the UEFA Champions League knockout stages starting in February.
